Lere Olayinka and Rufai Oseni: Can Guests Choose Which Interviewer to Engage?

A tense moment unfolded on Arise News' The Morning Show when Lere Olayinka, spokesperson to FCT Minister Nyesom Wike, declined to take questions from co-anchor Rufai Oseni. Some online reports described the station's decision to end the interview as a setback for Olayinka. I disagree. I see it as a spokesperson refusing to engage with an interviewer he believes has previously approached him in an antagonistic manner. Guests on radio, television and other media platforms should be free to decide where and with whom they engage. Where an interviewer is seen as combative or partisan, a guest may refuse questions from that person or decline the platform entirely.
