Ex-Health Ministry Official Jailed Seven Years Over ₦29.9m False Drug Supply Certificate
A former Principal Stock Verifier at the Federal Ministry of Health has been sentenced to seven years in prison for issuing a false certificate that enabled payment of nearly ₦30 million for pharmaceutical products that had not been supplied. The FCT High Court in Maitama, Abuja, found that he certified the delivery of 5,113 Ribavirin injections and 5,681 Globavirin tablets in May 2015, even though the items had not arrived in Nigeria. The certificate led to a payment of ₦29,996,120 to the supplier. The court convicted him on two counts relating to false statements in the discharge of official duties. He received a seven-year sentence on the first count, a ₦100,000 fine on the second, and was ordered to serve the prison term at Kuje Correctional Centre.
