Sowore Calls for Tinubu’s Impeachment Over 21-Day Foreign Stay
AAC presidential candidate Omoyele Sowore has called for President Bola Tinubu’s impeachment, arguing that the President should not remain outside Nigeria for more than 21 days without formally transferring power. Sowore said the Constitution requires a president proceeding on vacation or unable to perform official duties to notify the National Assembly. He argued that the Vice-President should assume the necessary functions where those conditions are met. The Presidency has described Tinubu’s stay abroad as a working visit, maintaining that he remains in contact with government officials. Sowore rejected that position and cited the prolonged absences of former Presidents Umaru Musa Yar’Adua and Muhammadu Buhari as precedents Nigeria should not repeat.
