Tinubu, Akpabio and Sanwo-Olu Attend Premiere of MKO Abiola Documentary
President Bola Tinubu and First Lady Oluremi Tinubu attended the national premiere of *MKO*, a documentary on the life, political struggle and legacy of Chief Moshood Kashimawo Olawale Abiola. The screening formed part of activities marking Nigeria’s 66th Independence Anniversary. The film recounts the annulled June 12, 1993 presidential election, Abiola’s detention and death, and the pro-democracy movement that fought for the restoration of civilian rule. It also highlights the activists, journalists, lawyers, students, workers and other Nigerians who faced repression during the struggle. Senate President Godswill Akpabio, Lagos Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu, other governors, federal officials and lawmakers were among the guests. Speakers at the event urged Nigerians to preserve the history of June 12 and protect the country’s democratic institutions.
