Indonesia Arrests Three Over Alleged Tapping of President’s Phone
Indonesian police have arrested three people suspected of unlawfully intercepting President Prabowo Subianto’s phone communications and those of other prominent figures. Justice Minister Yusril Ihza Mahendra said one suspect is a serving general, but police have identified the suspects only by their initials: LSP, ASN and EH. Indonesian media have suggested that LSP refers to General Listyo Sigit Prabowo, but police have not confirmed this identification. Investigators say the alleged targets included government officials, politicians, journalists, NGO representatives and businesspeople. Police have questioned 10 witnesses and three experts, and seized phones, a tablet and flash drives as evidence. The suspects could face up to 10 years in prison if convicted. The arrests come as President Prabowo faces pressure over the economy and destructive wildfires.
