How French Can Improve Your Chances of Getting Canadian Permanent Residence
French can strengthen a Canadian permanent residence application, but it is not an automatic route to approval. Candidates must meet the language scores and eligibility rules for the Express Entry programme or category they are targeting. TEF Canada and TCF Canada are the two French tests accepted for Express Entry. Both assess listening, speaking, reading and writing, with results converted to Canadian NCLC language levels. Applicants should review each skill separately, as falling below the required level in one area can affect eligibility. Candidates who reach NCLC 7 in all four French skills may gain extra CRS points and may qualify for French-language category-based selection, subject to other Express Entry requirements. French can also support applications through eligible federal, provincial or regional immigration pathways.
