At least 65 people reportedly died on August 20 when a boat carrying 85 passengers to rice farms capsized. Many of those involved were youths travelling across the river to their farms. The assistance included rice, beans, spaghetti, salt, tomato paste, clothing, detergents, sleeping materials and mosquito nets. Community leaders were also urged to ensure boat operators and passengers use life jackets consistently to prevent further tragedies.
