Nigeria’s GDP Growth Rate by Administration, 1999–2026

Nigeria’s GDP growth record from 1999 to 2026 shows periods of strong expansion, slower growth and two recessions. Growth was strongest during the Obasanjo and early Yar’Adua years. The economy later entered recessions in 2016 and 2020 under Buhari before returning to growth. Under Tinubu, GDP growth is listed at 3.3% in 2023, 4.1% in 2024 and 4% in 2025. Growth for 2026 is projected at 4.1%, based on IMF forecasts published in April 2025.
