Ukrainian Commander Claims Russian Troops Self-Detonate Rather Than Surrender in Donetsk
Ukraine’s 3rd Army Corps says it captured more than 250 Russian servicemen, including dozens of officers, during Operation Vivaldi in northern Donetsk. The corps said drone strikes disrupted Russian supply routes, leaving some units without food, water or ammunition. Commander Olexander Borodin claimed some Russian soldiers had been told they would be tortured or killed if captured. He said this fear made some reluctant to surrender and led some to detonate explosives while trying to target Ukrainian troops. The corps also claimed captured soldiers described severe shortages, untreated injuries and corruption within their units. These accounts and casualty figures have not been independently verified, and they reflect claims from the Ukrainian military.
