AKK Pipeline Delays Raise Questions Over Nigeria’s CNG Transition
Nigeria’s shift to compressed natural gas depends on reliable infrastructure, but the Ajaokuta–Kaduna–Kano pipeline has missed several completion and gas-delivery targets since 2023. NNPC has cited technical challenges, funding issues and equipment disruptions linked to the Middle East conflict. While these explanations may be valid, repeated postponements raise questions about project oversight, timelines and accountability. NNPC has interests in both petroleum products and natural gas. That makes it important to independently assess whether investment priorities are supporting the CNG transition as quickly as possible. The outstanding AKK works, delayed equipment and revised commissioning milestones should be made public. Nigerians need clarity on when Abuja, Kaduna and Kano will receive sustained commercial gas supply.
