Is Nigerian Manhood Failing Against Rising Insecurity?
Growing up, I admired how Nigerian men resisted colonizers and fought in the civil war. They risked everything for their beliefs. Today, when militants raid villages from Kaduna to Ekiti, people—men and women—flee instead of standing their ground. I even saw families crossing into Benin to escape danger. At the University of Jos, a boy was hacked in front of onlookers who did nothing but record. We cannot rely solely on the army when it fails to secure us. A man’s duty to provide for his family must include protection. The Bible in 1 Timothy 5:8 warns that any man who neglects this role falls short of his calling. This Easter, remember Christ’s sacrifice. We can choose peace without abandoning our communities to violence. True courage means defending those we love.
