Alleged Coup Plot: Court Martial Delays Ruling on Disputed Statements Again

The General Court Martial hearing the alleged coup plot case involving military officers has again postponed its ruling on whether disputed statements can be admitted as evidence. The ruling, initially fixed for September 30, 2026, will now be delivered on October 5 at the Scorpion Officers’ Mess in Asokoro, Abuja. The notice did not state a reason for the fourth postponement. Defence lawyers allege that some officers were coerced by Defence Intelligence Agency officials into making statements and were denied access to lawyers or witnesses of their choice. The prosecution insists the statements were made voluntarily. The court’s decision will determine whether the prosecution can rely on the statements as the trial continues.
