Prison Warden Denies Liability in Tory Lanez’s $100m Stabbing Lawsuit
A California prison warden has denied responsibility for the attack on rapper Tory Lanez, who is seeking about $100 million in damages. Court filings acknowledge that Lanez was attacked by fellow inmate Santino Casio with an improvised weapon at the California Correctional Institution. Lanez alleges that prison officials should not have housed them in the same unit because of Casio’s alleged record of violence. The lawsuit names the California Department of Corrections, Warden Thomas Valdez and 50 correctional officers. Lanez claims officers failed to supervise the area and protect him. He was hospitalised after the attack with 14 wounds and two collapsed lungs. Valdez disputes the claims, arguing that he did not cause Lanez’s injuries or violate his rights.
