Award-Winning Author Denies Claims His Migration Novel Was Written by AI
Canadian-Haitian author Thlyson Orlien has denied allegations that his prize-winning debut novel, *It Was Either That or Die*, was largely written with artificial intelligence. A little-known group claimed AI-detection tests found the manuscript to be almost entirely machine-generated. Orlien rejected the accusation and said he and his publisher were preparing evidence of his writing process. The novel follows a teacher escaping gang violence in Haiti before reaching Canada. Its themes of migration, fear and survival have helped place it on early lists for major French literary prizes.
