Israeli Military Acknowledges Marking Palestinian Detainees With Numbers During West Bank Raid
Israeli forces reportedly detained dozens of Palestinians during a raid in Qabatiya, near Jenin in the occupied West Bank. Witness Ahmad al-Hathnawi said some detainees, including himself, had identification numbers written on their foreheads and arms before interrogation. Al-Hathnawi, who had the number 44 marked on his forehead, said at least 50 people, including women, were detained. He said it was the first time he had been marked in this way. The Israeli military acknowledged that suspects were marked during the operation. It said commanders had addressed the seriousness of the act and that lessons had been learned. The response follows a similar incident in April involving numbers marked on Palestinians entering the Jenin refugee camp.
