Umahi Denies Tinubu Influenced Hitech’s Coastal Highway Contract
Works Minister David Umahi says President Bola Tinubu did not direct him to award the Lagos-Calabar Coastal Highway contract to Hitech Construction Company. He said he takes full responsibility for the procurement decision. Umahi said Hitech was selected through a procurement method allowed under Nigerian law. He cited the company’s experience in tackling coastal erosion and restoring parts of Victoria Island as a key reason for the choice. The minister also rejected money-laundering allegations and said the project passed through the Bureau of Public Procurement. He added that the road design includes drainage channels and service lanes to reduce flooding and improve access for communities along the route.
