Court Dismisses El-Rufai’s ₦120m Fundamental Rights Suit Against DSS, EFCC and ICPC
An FCT High Court has dismissed a ₦120 million fundamental rights enforcement suit filed by former Kaduna State Governor Nasir El-Rufai against the DSS, EFCC, ICPC and the Attorney-General of the Federation. Justice Sylvanus Orji held that invitation letters issued by the EFCC and ICPC met constitutional requirements and did not violate El-Rufai’s rights. The court also awarded ₦200,000 each to the DSS, EFCC and ICPC. The judge ruled that the DSS acted within its powers regarding its attempt to arrest El-Rufai at Abuja airport and the seizure of his international passport. The court said he did not establish that the passport seizure was continuous, permanent or unlawful.
