Gunmen Abduct Lagos Woman, Now Demand ₦60m Ransom in US Dollars
Armed kidnappers stormed a Lagos home in the Oke Agaye area of Ijedodo around 1:00 a.m. on April 23. They overpowered the security guard at gunpoint and seized 52-year-old Olanike Ogundare, then whisked her away to an unknown location. Sources say the abductors first called the family demanding ₦60 million before converting the ransom to U.S. dollars, a move investigators believe is meant to complicate tracing. The victim’s husband transferred ₦5 million to an intermediary, Mr. Dapo Adeola, but it remains unclear if the funds reached the kidnappers or were converted. Community leaders, including the Oodua Peoples Congress, and security agencies such as the Nigeria Police Force and DSS have been mobilised to secure her release. Officials warn that the dollar demand suggests a sophisticated operation and urge close monitoring of all communications and financial transactions.
