Kano High Court Hangs 21-Year-Old for Stabbing Shop Owner to Death
A Kano State High Court has sentenced 21-year-old Umar Idris to death by hanging for killing shop owner Sabiu Umar, 28. The court heard that on September 2, 2021, Idris broke into Umar’s shop in Tsamiya Mariri Quarters, Kano, intending to steal wedding clothes. When the shop owner raised the alarm, a struggle ensued and Idris stabbed him multiple times, leading to his death. Prosecution counsel presented three witnesses and the accused’s confessional statement. The defence called two witnesses and pleaded for leniency. Justice Sunusi Ado-Ma’aji ruled that the prosecution proved the case beyond reasonable doubt and delivered the death sentence.
