Nigerian Woman Arrested in US Over Alleged Illegal Voting in 2022 and 2024
A 56-year-old Nigerian woman, Gladys Adaeze Okafor, has been arrested in Massachusetts and charged with unlawfully voting as a non-US citizen. Federal prosecutors allege that Okafor, who was born in Aba, Abia State, registered to vote in Lynn in 2022 after certifying that she was a US citizen. She allegedly voted in the 2022 midterm election and again in the 2024 presidential primary. Court documents state that she became a lawful permanent resident in December 2022 but has not obtained or applied for US citizenship. The charge carries a potential sentence of up to one year in prison, supervised release and a fine. She may also face deportation if convicted.
