Edo Police Kill One, Arrest Four in Benin Vegetable Market Kidnap Bust
Edo State Police Command has smashed a syndicate behind the June 14 kidnapping at the Vegetable Market off Airport Road in Benin City. Acting on credible intelligence, officers from the Intelligence Response Team engaged suspects in a gun duel on June 18, arresting 32-year-old Marvelous Isaac and neutralising a second suspect known only as Precious. Further operations on June 20 led to the arrest of three more members, including 27-year-old Gift Raphael, Wisdom Michael and Rufus Michael. Investigators recovered a Lexus RX 350 SUV, a pump-action shotgun, live cartridges, a motorcycle and over ₦2 million in cash. All four arrested suspects have made confessional statements linking them to this and other kidnapping operations in Edo State. The Commissioner of Police commended the team’s dedication and urged the public to continue providing timely, credible information to help bring more criminal elements to justice.
