Inside Santan Dave’s Electric Two-Night Concert at Lagos’ National Theatre
I made my way through Lagos traffic to Surulere to see Santan Dave close his “The Boy Who Played the Harp” tour at the Wole Soyinka Centre for Culture and the Creative Arts. It was my first Lagos concert since moving to the city, and the renewed National Theatre felt like a fitting setting for the occasion. Dave delivered an expressive, high-energy set that matched the intensity of his records. One of my standout moments was hearing him perform “The Boy Who Played the Harp” live, as the crowd absorbed its reflective message about courage and justice. The two-night run also featured memorable appearances from Zaylevelten, BOJ, Burna Boy and Oxlade. Thousands of fans sang along to songs including “Lazarus,” “Location,” “INTOXYCATED” and “Raindance,” making the concert a powerful celebration of music, Nigerian creativity and shared connection.
