Customs Seizes $265,000, Unregistered Drugs and Prohibited Herbicide in Kano

The Nigeria Customs Service says it intercepted $265,000 in undeclared cash, unregistered medicines and more than 3,000 cartons of herbicide containing a prohibited chemical at Mallam Aminu Kano International Airport. Customs officials said the cash was found in the luggage of a Nigerian passenger who arrived from New Delhi on September 26. The passenger, money and relevant documents will be handed to the EFCC in Kano for investigation. The command also seized 2,143 sachets of medicines, 1,423 packs of empty medicine packaging materials and 10,056 cartons of empty pesticide packaging materials. NAFDAC confirmed that the regulated products were not registered and will take custody of them for further action. Customs warned that unregistered medicines and prohibited chemicals pose risks to public health and said it would intensify surveillance against their importation and circulation.
