Nigerian Arrested in Ghana Over Alleged Cross-Border Trafficking of Women
Ghana Immigration Service officers in the Savannah Region have arrested a Nigerian man, identified as Prince James, over allegations of human trafficking. Authorities said he was arrested in Kloth, near Damongo, and is suspected of working with a syndicate operating across Nigeria, Benin, Togo and Ghana. The group allegedly lured women to remote mining communities in Ghana with false job offers. One Nigerian nurse said she was promised a well-paid hospital job in Ghana but was instead pressured into prostitution after arriving. She said she escaped from a client’s home, ran into the bush and was later assisted by a farmer who took her to the police. The suspect is expected to be transferred for further investigation. Ghanaian immigration officials said the arrest could help them identify other suspected members of the network.
