2027 Elections: Why the North West Could Decide Nigeria’s Next President

Nigeria’s North West is emerging as a crucial battleground ahead of the 2027 general elections. The seven-state region remains the country’s largest voting bloc, and its electoral direction could strongly influence the presidential race. The analysis examines the shifting political calculations in Kaduna, Kano, Katsina, Kebbi, Jigawa, Sokoto and Zamfara. It focuses on incumbency, defections, party rivalries, insecurity, economic hardship and the ability of parties to mobilise voters. The APC’s control of state structures gives President Bola Tinubu a major advantage in the region.
