International Campaigns Against Tinubu May Hurt Ordinary Nigerians Most
Political frustration should not lead Nigerians to support actions that may harm the wider population more than the political elite. International pressure, visa restrictions and sanctions often affect students, workers, travellers and families first. The campaign framing Nigeria as a site of “Christian genocide” may bring more scrutiny and restrictions, but it is unlikely to stop powerful politicians or their associates from travelling and protecting their interests. If Nigerians want to challenge Tinubu’s government, the focus should be on informed political action at home. Measures that punish millions of citizens while leaving the elite untouched are not a victory for ordinary people.
