Kano Police Accused of Blocking ‘Tinubu Must Go’ Movement Meeting
Members of the ‘Tinubu Must Go’ movement say police officers blocked access to a private venue in Kano where they planned to hold a meeting on Sunday. One of the conveners, lawyer Abba Hikima, said officers and several mobile police vehicles were stationed outside the venue. He said the group intended to discuss its campaign to mobilise Nigerians to vote President Bola Tinubu out in the 2027 election over the economic hardship it attributes to his administration. Hikima argued that the planned gathering was peaceful and protected by constitutional rights to expression and association. He said the Kano police commissioner had asked to be informed about the meeting, while the group maintained that it did not require police permission for an indoor event. The Kano State Police Command had not responded to requests for its explanation at the time of the report.
