Navy Arrests Suspected Cult Leader After Alleged Attack on Bonny Fishing Community
Personnel of the Nigerian Navy Forward Operating Base in Bonny have arrested Paul Brown, popularly known as “Play Play”, after an alleged cult-related attack on Mumakiri, also called Ajegunle Fishing Settlement, in Rivers State. The Navy said it received a distress report on October 6 that armed suspects were intimidating residents and allegedly extorting money, fish and other valuables. Personnel deployed in two gunboats, prompting the suspects to flee into nearby creeks and bushes. Brown was apprehended during the pursuit, while four other suspects escaped. He was handed over to the police in Bonny for further investigation and possible prosecution. Security agencies are continuing efforts to find the remaining suspects and protect riverine communities in the area.
