Edo Youths Confront Police, Allege Extortion at Auchi-Aviele Checkpoint
A group of youths confronted police officers and Vigilante Group of Nigeria personnel at a checkpoint on the Auchi-Aviele Road in Edo State over allegations that they were extorting motorists and commercial motorcyclists. In a viral video, the youths searched some of the officers and said they recovered ₦4,200 allegedly collected from road users within a short time. One officer reportedly denied having any money on him. The youth leader said the money would be taken to the Area Commander. He also called for an investigation into claims that officers at Agbede Police Station and vigilante personnel were acting on instructions from their superiors. The allegations have not been independently verified.
