Nigeria Has 26 Critical Minerals Sought by US, Says Trade Minister

Nigeria has about 26 of the 60 critical minerals the United States is seeking to secure globally, according to the Minister of Industry, Trade and Investment, Jumoke Oduwole. She said the recent Nigeria-US critical minerals framework is a non-binding memorandum of understanding. The Federal Government says it will negotiate any future deals on terms that protect Nigeria’s interests. The government hopes the partnership will support local mineral processing, better energy and infrastructure, lithium development and battery manufacturing. Oduwole added that growing the mining sector could create jobs, particularly for young people in communities affected by insecurity.
