Florida Murder Suspect Rejects Life Plea After Judge Refuses Cheesesteak Request
A 74-year-old Florida man charged with first-degree murder allegedly offered to plead guilty and accept a life sentence if the court provided him with a Philly cheesesteak, fries and a Pepsi. Robert Kessler made the request during jury selection in his trial over the 2021 death of Stephanie Crone-Overholt. The judge said he could not make food part of a guilty-plea agreement, although Kessler would be given lunch. Kessler withdrew the proposed plea and asked for jury selection to continue. He has not been convicted and also faces a charge of abuse of a dead body. Prosecutors allege that the victim's remains were found in Tampa's McKay Bay after she disappeared in 2021. The trial is continuing in Hillsborough County.
