Bauchi Police Arrest Man Accused of Killing 60-Year-Old Woman Over Witchcraft Allegation

The Bauchi State Police Command says it has arrested a 25-year-old man accused of killing a 60-year-old woman in Wasari Village, Gadau District. Police said the suspect allegedly accused Hafsatu Ya'u of causing the illness of another woman through witchcraft. He was said to have entered her home and attacked her with a knife before fleeing. Detectives reportedly took the victim to the General Hospital in Azare, where she was confirmed dead. The case is being transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department for further investigation. The police commissioner condemned jungle justice, witchcraft-related violence and attacks on women and children, urging residents to report allegations to lawful authorities rather than take the law into their own hands.
