A businessman, Oluwatayo Fashogbon, told an FCT High Court in Maitama that he paid ₦6 million into the account of Zulaihatu Umar, wife of former Code of Conduct Tribunal chairman Danladi Yakubu Umar. Fashogbon said Umar allegedly instructed him to make the payment on January 25, 2024, two days after his company received a contract payment from the tribunal. He also testified that he paid ₦2 million each for the university fees of Umar’s two children. The witness said his company was awarded a contract worth about ₦140 million to digitise the tribunal’s personnel, stores, accounts and online filing systems. Umar is facing a four-count charge over alleged nepotism and corrupt advantage involving ₦15.59 million. The court admitted the contract award letter as evidence and adjourned the case until January 20, 2027, for further hearing.
