I woke up around 5:00 a.m. while preparing for the school run and heard a woman in the next compound pleading with her husband not to take Chikamso back to the East. She promised to change and said she would no longer beat the girl. The man said he had warned her for a long time and did not want the matter to become an online scandal. He left with Chikamso and her suitcase. I am relieved that the girl has been taken away, especially as she is already in secondary school. No child should have to endure maltreatment in a home where they are meant to be cared for.
