DSS Arrests Suspected Arms Kingpin, Seizes Ammunition Linked to Terror Networks
The Department of State Services has arrested Abubakar Mubarak, 28, over allegations that he supplied arms and ammunition to terrorist networks operating across northern Nigeria. DSS operatives reportedly arrested Mubarak in Magabar Jibia, Katsina State, on August 24, 2026. His arrest allegedly followed the interception of Ismail Lawalli near Keffi, Nasarawa State, with 1,099 rounds of 7.62mm ammunition, 57 rounds of 5.56mm ammunition and 106 rounds of GPMG ammunition. Lawalli allegedly told investigators that the ammunition was being transported to Mubarak. The report also said Mubarak's elder brother, Mustapha Abubakar, was earlier arrested in Gusau in connection with alleged arms trafficking. The suspects are in DSS custody pending further investigation and possible prosecution.
