Court Remands Four Over Alleged Rape of Mentally Challenged Teen in Anambra
The Anambra State Children, Sexual and Gender-based Violence Offences Court in Awka has remanded four men accused of raping and impregnating an 18-year-old mentally challenged girl. At their arraignment, Christopher Nnamah (54), Ndubuisi Ikechelu (40), Chinecherem Emmanuel (20) and Kennedy Udogu (34) pleaded not guilty. The magistrate ordered they be held at Awka Correctional Centre and adjourned the hearing to August 5. The prosecutor said the suspects lured the teenager in Umuriam village, Nawfia, taking advantage of her mental state. Her guardian reported the pregnancy and the victim identified those responsible during questioning. The offence violates Section 3(2) of the Violence Against Persons Prohibition and Protection Law of Anambra State 2017. The remand was sought under Section 130 of the Administration of Criminal Justice Law 2022.
