Research Links Idu and Udo Traditions to Ezza Salt Valley in Ebonyi

A new historical research publication argues that Idu refers to Ndu Idu, a lowland salt valley in Omuagu Idembia, Ebonyi State, rather than a location in Edo State. It also describes Udo as a peace shrine connected to an oath-taking tradition shared by six neighbouring communities. The research cites a British Museum object, an HMS Thistle ship log from 1901, museum records and map coordinates. It claims these records trace a wooden salt oath box from the Ezza area through Bonny River to London, where it was later given an unclear origin label.
