IPOB Dissolves Third Directorate of State, Appoints New Leadership Team
In a statement from Germany dated June 17, 2026, IPOB says it has dissolved its third Directorate of State (DOS) administration. The detained leader Nnamdi Kanu approved the change and named Chris Nwaọgụ as the new head. The restructuring follows concerns over the former leadership’s performance, alleged neglect of detained members’ welfare, factional disputes, and poor management of communications. IPOB says the shake-up aims to strengthen the movement, restore member confidence, and improve administrative efficiency. Alongside the new head, IPOB announced Solomon Egbo as deputy head, Emma Powerful as spokesperson, and Ikechukwu Onuoha as media head. Continental representatives, national coordinators, and departmental leads were also named. An Elders Advisory Council will provide strategic guidance between Kanu and the DOS. All officers worldwide are instructed to recognize and cooperate with the new team. Previous suspensions have been set aside pending review. These changes remain unverified by independent sources, and authorities have not yet responded.
