Belgian Car Salesman Recognised as Prince After DNA Test Confirms Prince Laurent as Father
A 26-year-old Belgian car salesman, Clément Vandenkerckhove, has been legally recognised as a prince after a DNA test confirmed Prince Laurent of Belgium as his biological father. The recognition was completed at a town hall ceremony six months ago. Vandenkerckhove is the son of Prince Laurent and Belgian singer Wendy Van Wanten, who reportedly had a relationship in the 1990s. He learned his father’s identity at age 16 and later reconnected with the prince before they completed the DNA test together. He will have inheritance rights to Prince Laurent’s private estate alongside his three half-siblings. However, he will not receive a royal allowance, perform official duties or enter the line of succession. Although entitled to use the Saxe-Coburg name, he says he will keep Vandenkerckhove in honour of his mother.
