Police Detain Officer After Shooting Kills Two-Year-Old Girl in Lagos
A two-year-old girl, Omole Taiwo, was killed and another girl injured during a shooting in the Nosamu area of Ajegunle, Lagos. The incident happened on Thursday night during a police response to a reported clash between two groups fighting over toll collection. The Lagos State Police Command said Assistant Superintendent of Police Omotayo Olajide was disarmed and detained. The injured girl was receiving treatment and was reported to be stable. The State Criminal Investigation Department has taken over the investigation. Police said preliminary findings indicated that Olajide fired his weapon during the operation, striking both girls. An allegation that he may have been under the influence of alcohol has not been confirmed. The commissioner of police said the investigation would determine any legal or disciplinary action, and that no officer found responsible would be shielded.
