Obazee Calls for Probe and Restatement of CBN’s 2025 Audited Accounts
Jim Obazee, President Bola Tinubu’s Special Investigator, has called for the Central Bank of Nigeria’s 2025 audited accounts to be withdrawn and restated. He alleged that the published statements contain serious reporting irregularities and should be studied as examples of deceptive accounting practices. Speaking at the commissioning of the Financial Reporting Council of Nigeria headquarters in Lagos, Obazee said the CBN released summary statements for 2024 and 2025 instead of complete audited financial statements. He argued that this could violate Section 50 of the CBN Act, which requires the bank to submit its annual accounts to the President and National Assembly. Obazee cited concerns over non-comparable figures, earnings management, weak corporate governance and the independence of the bank’s auditors. He urged the National Assembly to use its constitutional oversight powers to investigate the allegations and demand greater transparency from the CBN.
