INEC Rejects NDC’s Claim of Candidate Substitution in Anambra and Benue
INEC has dismissed allegations by the Nigeria Democratic Congress that it removed the party’s nominated State House of Assembly candidates in Anambra and Benue and replaced them with unauthorised names. The Commission said political parties are solely responsible for nominating candidates, while INEC only monitors party primaries as required by law. It said it has no authority to select, insert or substitute candidates for any party. INEC added that parties submitted their candidate lists through the official nomination process, using access codes issued to national chairmen. It said the disputed names appeared on Form EC9E submitted and jointly signed by the party’s national chairman and national secretary.
