Saraki Backs FG’s Local Vehicle Purchase Directive, Cites 2016 Senate Bill
Former Senate President Bukola Saraki has welcomed the Federal Government’s directive requiring ministries, departments and agencies to buy vehicles from licensed local assemblers. He said the policy could support local manufacturing, create jobs and reduce demand for foreign exchange. Saraki argued that government spending should strengthen Nigerian industries rather than mainly fund imported products. Saraki recalled that the 8th Senate passed a 2016 bill to make preference for Nigerian-made goods compulsory in public procurement. He urged the government to implement the vehicle directive consistently across public institutions.
