ACF Demands Full Disclosure of Nigeria-US Critical Minerals Agreement
The Arewa Consultative Forum has asked the Federal Government to publish the terms of Nigeria’s reported critical minerals agreement with the United States, including its legal status, financial implications and participating companies. The group said mineral-producing communities must benefit through local jobs, skills development, Nigerian ownership, infrastructure and environmental safeguards. It also called for clear provisions on local processing, fair compensation and remediation for communities affected by mining. ACF raised concerns that insecurity could leave mineral-bearing communities vulnerable to illegal mining, displacement and environmental damage. It urged security agencies, the National Assembly and regulators to provide oversight and consult state governments and host communities. The forum said Nigeria’s gold, lithium and lead-zinc deposits should support industrialisation and sustainable prosperity rather than deepen poverty in mining areas.
