Peter Obi and NDC: How Will You Protect Votes in 2027?
Peter Obi’s character is not in doubt for many supporters. But character alone is not an election strategy. The real question for the NDC is how it plans to protect votes from the polling unit to the final collation. The 2023 election damaged public trust after disputes over the transmission of results to the IReV portal. Many voters queued for hours, only to feel that their efforts were not properly reflected. That is why another call to “come out and vote” may not be enough without a clear protection plan. The Electoral Act 2026 has renewed debate around electronic transmission and possible loopholes. NDC should explain how it will recruit and pay polling-unit agents, document EC8A results, monitor collation centres, prepare legal teams and respond to intimidation, BVAS failures or transmission problems. Nobody is asking Obi to abandon decency. Supporters are asking for a credible war room, trained agents, strong legal preparation and a practical response plan. Why should people spend scarce transport money to vote if no one can clearly explain how their votes will be counted and defended?
