Peter Obi Challenges Anambra Government to Substantiate Debt Allegations

Peter Obi has challenged the Anambra State Government to provide evidence for claims that his administration left unpaid debts, including a ₦2 billion ecological loan, contractor liabilities, salaries, gratuities and pensions. In a statement disputing the allegations, Obi said his administration cleared historic gratuity and salary arrears exceeding ₦35 billion. He maintained that no salaries, pensions, gratuities or certified contractor payments were outstanding when he left office. He said the ecological funds were released shortly before the end of his tenure for the Oko/Umuchiana erosion project and were left intact for his successor. Obi added that project-specific funds were separate from the savings his administration said it handed over, insisting he would stop campaigning if contrary evidence is established.
