Cross River Stakeholders Urge Restraint After Alleged Assault on Content Creator
Stakeholders in Cross River Central have urged social media activists and content creators to avoid posts that could heighten political tension ahead of the 2027 general elections. The call followed an alleged confrontation involving content creator Assam Michael Okongor, known as MC Okrika, and suspected supporters of APC senatorial hopeful Oden Ewa at a stakeholders’ meeting in Ikom. Okongor alleged that he was slapped, beaten and had a drink poured on him, while associates of Ewa denied the claim and described it as an attempt to damage the politician’s reputation. Okongor’s lawyer has petitioned the police for an impartial investigation. Community leaders said political criticism should remain responsible and lawful, while security agencies were urged to hear all sides and investigate the incident fairly.
