Plateau Governor Bans Alleged Unauthorised Hisbah Operations in Jos North
Plateau State Governor Caleb Mutfwang has ordered the immediate suspension of a group allegedly operating as Hisbah in parts of Jos North Local Government Area, describing its activities as illegal and unauthorised. The governor directed security agencies to identify, investigate and prosecute anyone linked to alleged intimidation, harassment, extortion or the imposition of unlawful restrictions on residents. Mutfwang said only legally constituted authorities can enforce the law in the state. He added that the directive is not aimed at any religion, ethnic group or community, but at preventing parallel authorities and protecting residents’ rights and safety.
