Shettima Rejects Wike’s Split-Vote Coalition, Calls for APC Sweep
Vice President Kashim Shettima has rejected Nyesom Wike’s Rainbow Coalition plan to support President Bola Tinubu while backing candidates from other parties for other offices. At an APC rally in Lafia on Wednesday, Shettima urged supporters to vote for APC candidates at every level in the 2027 elections. Wike has said the coalition is focused on Tinubu’s re-election and would support other parties’ candidates in governorship, Senate and legislative races. Shettima said the Presidency would not accept split voting, adding that the party wanted voters to choose APC candidates from top to bottom. The SDP has also rejected involvement in the coalition, accusing the APC of trying to weaken opposition parties. APC elders in Ondo State opposed any arrangement that would require the party to give up candidates or constituencies in exchange for support for Tinubu.
