FG Directs MDAs to Buy Vehicles Only From Licensed Local Assemblers
The National Automotive Design and Development Council says it has finalised plans to enforce the Nigeria First Policy signed by President Bola Tinubu. Under the policy, ministries, departments and agencies must procure vehicles, including project utility vehicles, only from licensed local assemblers or their authorised retailers. Foreign-assembled vehicles can only be bought where no local alternative exists and direct presidential approval is obtained. The council says every vehicle supplied to government must have a traceable VIN verified by the NADDC. Suppliers operating outside licensed assembly lines risk sanctions, blacklisting and licence revocation. This policy sweet my belle, but make we talk true: if it is properly implemented, it could grow Nigeria’s auto industry, create jobs and reduce pressure on foreign exchange. If local assemblers cannot meet demand or prices are not controlled, it could also lead to delays, inflated contracts and questionable waiver approvals.
